Woman attacked while pregnant: Man charged with aggravated assault

A pregnant woman was attacked while waiting at a bus stop in a north suburban park on Saturday, police said.

The attack happened about 2 p.m. at the intersection of E. 59th St. and Mather Ave., according to a news release from the Chicago Police Department.

The 46-year-old woman was walking down the street when a man approached her and began shouting racial slurs at her, according to police.

The man then struck her in the face, police say, and pushed her to the ground before fleeing the scene.

A witness told police the woman suffered minor injuries and did not require medical attention.
